The science behind VemoZyme® ALTERNASE+

Lysozyme, also known as muramidase, is an enzyme that breaks down the glycosidic bond in the peptidoglycan component of bacterial cell walls, leading to the loss of integrity of the cell membrane and cell death.

Peptidoglycans (PGNs) are an integral component of bacterial cell walls, and are considered to be conserved products of bacterial metabolism and activity within the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. They are intricate and composed of repeating N-acetylmuramic acid sequences, which are linked together by ꞵ-1-4 bonds with N-acetylglucosamine. Although there is a significant turnover of PGNs resulting from the natural recycling of bacterial cell wall fragments in the gut, it has been reported that PGNs may elicit a pro-inflammatory response in the host’s GI tract. Peptidoglycan is the major component of Gram-positive bacterial cell wall.

Dosage

VemoZyme® ALTERNASE+ is applied at a dose of 150 g/t feed.

From the conducted experiment, a significantly better effect was found in the experimental group with addition of VemoZyme® ALTERNASE+, compared to the control group. The live weight of the birds of this group at the end of the experimental period was 3.1% higher compared to the control group, the consumption of feed per kilogram of live mass was lower by 1.9%, and the production efficiency factor was better by 7.8%.
